The Day Jesus Was Feh

",i>On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple and began driving out those who were buying and selling there......My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations, but you have made it a den of robbers" (Mk.11:15-16).

Lets take a look at what was going on that made Jesus so angry. In case you are wondering about the title, feh is a Yiddish word for showing disapproval. People came to the temple in those days for various reasons. One of them was to make sacrifices for their sins. The men with whom Jesus got angry were providing a service for those people. These vendors had set up in the court of the Gentiles with their animal pens and money tables. The money tables were more than likely for currency exchange as many pilgrims made their way from distant lands. Sounds pretty convenient, doesn't it? You didn't even have to bring your own animal for sacrifice, as you could purchase one right there on the premises. I am sure that these guys were making great profits in that they had what you might call a captive audience. Can we all see the utter hypocrisy in all of this? Making money off the Lord....What made Jesus so mad is reflected in His last statement..."My house (the Temple) will be called a house of prayer." What was going on here just was not in tune with the real purpose of the temple, and unfortunately this goes on today. Are the right things going on in our temples? Sometimes religion forgets what it is supposed to do and for whom. What is our temple really all about? Have we substituted profit for prayer? Have we allowed our temples to become more man-centered than God and Spirit-centered? Jesus got mad that day because He saw crass commercialism where there should have been humility and prayer. He was insulted and disappointed that things had denigrated to this stage. "My house will be called a house of prayer." As Jesus watches us conduct business in our temple, (1 Cor.6:19) what does He see. I hope He is not feh.......

Have a wonderful day....Serve the Lord with gladness.... Love mark Phil.4:11
