About Feeling Guilty

"Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we have become conscious of sin....for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" (Rom.3:20,23).

All of us have felt guilt in our lives. There are probably also times when we should have felt guilty that we did not. Most of the time when we feel guilty there is probably a reason....We are! We did something wrong and we feel bad about it. The Bible says that the root of our guilt feelings is about sin...The sin of failing to meet God's expectations. But should we feel this way? After all, God is perfect and none of us will ever reach that perfection...To be clear, feeling guilty about things we have done wrong is alright as long as it does not dominate our life to the extent that we cannot function normally. The apostle Paul is succinct in today's verse, "for we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." As Christians, we have a wonderful antidote for guilt. Though sin may deceive us...Though it may try to destroy us...Though it is always discovered, we have help. We need the help because if we are not careful, we can imprison ourselves. Apart from God, we can become blind, even though we can see...We may feel like we are in bondage, even though we are free. We might feel poor even though we are rich...We might feel sick even though we are well...We might feel dead, even though we are alive..I may leave you hanging just a bit today as I challenge you to read and meditate upon the fifty first Psalm. After reading and pondering it, you will be able to write tomorrow's devotional. I will leave you with a quote from Ann Landers. "One of the most painful self-mutilating time and energy consuming exercises in the human experience is guilt. It can ruin your day, your week, or your whole life if you let it. Remember, guilt is a pollutant and we don't need anymore of it in the world." More tomorrow....

Have a great start to your week....Begin it with a RAK or two.... Love mark Phil.4:11
