Overcoming The Dreaded "D's"

"People are just about as happy as they make up their minds to be"

Abraham Lincoln

There are some pretty discouraging words out there that begin with the letter D...I am almost dejected already when I think about them...desolation...disorder...doubt...distrust...disappointment...decay...defeat... disaster...death...dejection...depression...danger...deception...dread. That's about it for me, maybe you can think of some more discouraging "D" words. I didn't mean to start out so negatively, but I am headed in the right direction. How do we turn our D's (defeats) into V's (victories)? I've got a few suggestions. It was the 4th watch of the night (between 3 and 6 AM) when the disciples were being buffeted by a storm in their boat on a lake...Out of the maelstrom they saw someone walking toward them ON THE WATER..."Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid" (Matt.14:27). We need to view our adversity as Jesus' opportunity. He will be there in the darkest times. Have you heard about positive visualization? It's kind of a new age fix on the glass half full attitude. "Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him" (Js. 1:12). We must know (visualize?) that with the Lord's help that we can overcome adversity. Then there's that trust thing.."But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him, He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when the heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit" (Jer,17:7-8). We must trust that God hears our prayers and will give us the necessary courage to carry on..Finally there's the "D" that can overcome those bad "D's". "Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything" (Js.1:4). We need to discipline ourselves to persevere. Jesus is always there..."Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." The Lord will help us overcome those dreaded "D's."

Have a great day... No devotionals for the next two days....I will write again on Monday the 26th....RAKs are in order until then... Love mark Phil.4:11
