I vividly remember the first game of my Little League Baseball career as a nine year old. We were to face the best twelve year old pitcher on the planet, whose reputation for speed and inaccuracy were legendary. The talk around the dugout was mostly about fear. Maybe I was too young or foolish to be afraid, but fear was not to be a part of my baseball psyche...EVER! It would become my philosophy as a hitter that as long as I had a bat in hands I had a chance. Just how does one get and maintain a positive attitude? "I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well-fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want" (Phil.4:12). I believe this to mean that our attitude about what happens in our lives outweighs what actually happens. Paul found contentment in his life because he had the proper attitude. Through Jesus, we become greater than the greatest of our problems. I think that the Psalmist said it well: "If the Lord delights in a man's way, He makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with His hand" (37:23-24). When we give our life over completely to the Lord, He upholds us with His hand....The Spanish have a wonderful word for hope...esperanza...The apostle Paul tells us about hope in Romans 15. "May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit" (V 13). As we grow in the Lord, we should also grow in hope...Finally there is that confidence issue. Where we place our confidence goes a long way in determining our success in life. "For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared" (Prov.3:26). As we grow in the Lord, we ought also to grow in His confidence. The confidence to face every day as the best in the year...Ralph Waldo Emerson also said; "A man is what he thinks about all day long." Lets all keep our thoughts on the positive aspects of life, knowing that we have an active God who will give us peace and joy....
