How To Seek

"'Come,' He replied, 'you will see'......'Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?' Nathaniel said, 'Come and see,' said Philip" (Jn.1:39 & 46).

Seeking one's faith is a quest. We must find a faith that is all our own. The scriptures invite us on that quest as we read in today's verses. The ask, seek and knock of Matthew 7:7 is another invitation to go on the quest. In the apostle Paul's speech to the Athenians about the true God in Acts 17, he says, "God did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him" (V 27). There are religions that are not worth seeking. A religion that tries to produce guilt and does some arm-twisting is not worth seeking. Feel-good religions that are shallow and only pander to one's feelings is not worth it. This is a tough one, but hand-me-down religion is not necessarily what we need. Even if many in our family are involved in a particular faith, it may not be the one for us. The religions on TV that I like to call, profit-motive religions or gospels of prosperity should not be for us. Lastly, we don't need hand-made religions that are some scriptures and a lot of human tradition. They are not the answer either. I've given you much stuff to wade through, but if we are to really seek out the will of God there are some right ways to do it. "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes after him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him" (Heb.11:6) We must seek earnestly! "Humble yourself before the Lord, and he will lift you up" We must seek humbly! About Nathaniel, Jesus said, "Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is nothing false" (Jn.1:47). We must seek him honestly! And lastly in Jesus' own words; "If you love me, you will obey what I command" (Jn.14:15). We must seek him obediently! When we seek the Lord in these ways, we are bound to find him...Never give up the quest....
