Filling The Empty Spaces

"God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out to him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being" (Ac.17:27-28)

Are we similar to the Athenians to whom the apostle Paul addressed these words? Though they had many Gods, there seemed to be a void of some kind in their lives that needed filling. Paul actually viewed them as a very religious people. What they had in their lives were empty spaces. People in today's world also have many empty spaces. How those spaces are filled determines how satisfying of a life that they will live. The recent death of Amy Winehouse brings to light the frustrating search to fill those empty spaces. She chose to fill them with drugs. As Solomon sought to fill the empty spaces, he tried many things that people try today, howbeit, on a grander scale. One of the first attempts at filling those spaces involves pleasures of the body like sex, drugs and food. These pleasures, though physically satisfying, are very short-lived. The search leaves people with the Oliver Twist retort of "MORE!" Worldly possessions may be next on the list as people look for things to fill the empty spaces. Solomon knew the answer to that one. There is even an attempt to fill in the spaces with higher learning. This may make one smarter, but the spaces may still remain. Next on the list can be some new-age religion that claims to take one to a higher plane. In the fourth chapter of the Gospel of Luke, Jesus went into the synagogue on the Sabbath and read from the scroll of Isaiah..."The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." (Lk.4:18-19). My proposal to you this morning is that only Jesus can fill in the empty spaces. Jesus came to fill this Messianic prophecy found in Isaiah. He came to preach the gospel to those lacking material or spiritual resources. He came to give freedom to those in bondage. He came to bring sight to the blind, especially the spiritually blind. He came to take broken lives and put them back together. Our year can be the year of the Lord's favor. He came to fill our empty spaces....He fills them perfectly...

Have a great start to your week....Begin it with a RAK or two..... Love mark Phil.4:11
