We Have An Anchor

"We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure" (Heb.6:19).

For those of us who have some boating experience, we understand the importance and function of an anchor. When we want our boat to stay in a particular spot for a while, the anchor comes into play. It must be heavy enough to hold the boat in place and must also have a sturdy rope that attached it to the boat. In today's world, I believe that people are looking for something to hold on to. They are looking for personal security and a real meaning in life. If you will pardon my rhyme, they are looking for a hope that will help them to cope. When the storms of life hit, people need an anchor that will hold them fast. Priscilla Jane Owens was a school teacher in the Baltimore, MD area for some 50 years in the mid 1800s. She wrote the lyrics for several famous gospel songs including, "We Have An Anchor." Though the words are old, they still resonate today and the chorus goes like this:

"We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior's Love
."

Security is a crucial theme that weaves its way though our Bibles. Most of us can quote most or all of the 23rd Psalm. As we read through it we find that we have things available to us through the Lord. We can find things like peace, courage, protection, comfort, rest, guidance, encouragement, companionship, power and eternal security. We can have all of these things simply because the Lord is our Shepherd...He is our Rock...Jesus is our anchor....When we are in the Lord we have something to hang on to. No matter what the situation, we have a way to cope with uncertainty. Fastened to the rock which cannot move, grounded firm and deep in the Savior's love....

Have a great day....Go about doing good.... Love mark Phil.4:11
