The Great Winnower

"He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear His threshing floor"

Harvest time out on the floor is a great spectacle for someone who has not seen is done on a large scale as the giant combines move through the wheat fields. When they are done, there is a stubble left on the field and the grain and chaff have been separated. In the days of Jesus, the same thing was done, but without the combine. A winnowing fork was used to toss the grain that had been cut down into the air. The breeze would carry away some of the chaff, leaving the heavier more substantive grain behind. John the Baptist is speaking in today's verse, telling about Jesus and a great winnowing fork. We can connect the Holy Spirit to this winnowing fork. In the sixteenth chapter of the gospel of John, Jesus reminds his disciples of his imminent departure. He says; "Unless I go away, the Counselor (Holy Spirit) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgement" (Vs 7-8) Jesus is telling his disciples that the Holy Spirit will be that giant winnowing fork...For the disciples, according to the next verse, that winnowing fork would sanctify them for service to the Lord when he was gone. "In the last days, I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh" (Acts 2:17) Those last days are now and all flesh is us. For those who obey God into obedience, that Holy Spirit will be our gift, poured out on us. As a great winnowing fork, it will sanctify us for the Lord's service. We are the precious grain that our Lord wants, having been winnowed by our obedience to him....

Have a great day.... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
