The Great Escape

"Flee as a bird to your mountain, thou who art weary of sin; Go to the clear flowing fountain where you may
wash and be clean. Fly, for the avenger is near thee; Call, and the Savior will hear thee; He on His bosom
will bear thee, O thou who are weary of sin, O thou who are weary of sin
"

Mary Dana Shindler 1842

I left the little sparrow trapped in the shopping mall of sin yesterday. If we are not careful, we can become that little bird who has become comfortable with its inability to escape and be free again. Mary Dana Shindler wrote the song, Flee as a Bird after the deaths of her husband, brother, sister and infant son. She probably felt trapped with the avenger near, but knew the answer..."Call, and the Savior will hear thee." In order to save us, God sent his Son in the form of a human being here to earth. "So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows" (Matt.10:31). God did this because of our importance to Him. Aren't you glad? Aren't we grateful that God loved us so much and that Jesus did this willingly for you and me? The Great Escape was planned for us through the wisdom of a loving God, but as humans we must be careful. Far too many get so used to Satan's prison. They keep themselves entangled in anger, hatred and immorality. They have escaped the prison, only to fly right back in....Just give it some thought....The door to our freedom has been opened to us, but we cannot fly through it alone and we must leave our sins behind.Jesus will guide us through... Other free people, the Christians with whom we worship and fellowship, will help us to stay free...A free flock...Who knows, maybe our little sparrow wings will change to those of eagles, and we will soar as witnesses of the freedom found through Jesus Christ. "He will protect thee forever, wipe every falling tear; He will forsake thee, O never, Sheltered to tenderly there. Haste then the hours are flying, spend not the moments in sighing. Cease from your sorrow and crying: the Savior will wipe every tear, The Savior will wipe every tear."
