The Dreaded Pop Quiz

"Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves" (2 Cor.13:5).

There was nothing that drew groans from my students back in my teaching days than this; "Close you books class, we will be taking a pop-quiz." Although I did not weigh the pop-quiz as much as a major test, I still viewed it as an important teaching tool. Just as regular physical exams are important to maintaining good health, the pop-quiz helped me to evaluate my student's progress. Today's verse is suggesting regular pop-quizzes for us as Christians. "Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you----unless, of course, you fail the test" (V 5b). So, why is it that we need to be examining our lives from time to time? I think that there are several reasons. First, there is that accountability thing...In our jobs, we are held accountable for what we accomplish. And so it is with the Christian life. Without accountability, we might not be able to see the big picture. Along with accountability, we must be able to see that we are making progress. We need to be maturing as Christians each day and must be checking that progress often. Lastly, if there is no accountability or progress, we will not be able to stay on task. Another way of putting this is to stay on course. Jesus has shown us the way, and frequent self-examination is necessary to see that we do not stray off..Now that we have this down, tomorrow I want to talk about taking the test....

Have a great start to your week....Begin it with a RAK... Love mark Phil.4:11
