Encountering God

"Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong" (Ecc.5:1).

Why do people go to church. We all know that "first day of the week" stuff and what it means...Why do people really go to church. Maybe they're looking for something to believe in or seeking relationships. Perhaps they have young children and they want them to have religious training. The religious landscape can be pretty confusing as churches literally compete for your loyalty and patronage. Putting all of this behind, I would propose to you that we all need a growing relationship with God...An encounter with the Lord...The first 7 verses of the 5th chapter of the Book of Ecclesiastes would be good ones to read and meditate upon today. I think that Solomon has some pretty solid ideas for people who truly want to encounter God..Today's verse suggests that we check our motives and come as a participant rather than a spectator. "Guard your steps....Go near to listen." This listening thing is so important that Solomon alludes to it in verses 1-3, and in verse 7. "When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it....Do not let your mouth lead you into sin" (Vs.4 & 6). The suggestion here is to think before we speak so that our mouths don't write a check that we cannot cover...God would probably rather us not speak that to say something that we will be sorry for...Finally, we come to verse seven..."Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore, stand in awe of God"...Our real reason for being here is to have an encounter with God. To do this, we must take Him seriously...The words for today are; "stand in awe of God."

Have a great day...Let your light shine for the Lord... Love mark Phil.4:11
