Jericho's Lesson

"When the trumpets sounded, the people shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the people gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so every man charged straight in, and they took the city" (Josh.6:20).

The Irish poet Robert Burns has been credited with the idiom, "the best laid plans of mice and man, oft go astray." Though our plans don't always come out the way we might expect, planning is still a good thing. The children of Israel had crossed over into the land that God had promised, but all was not milk and honey yet. There were people inhabiting the land that would not give it up without a fight. The city of Jericho was as well-fortified as a city in those days could be, with a wall about 65 feet high surrounding it. God had a plan...The difference between God's plans and ours is the His don't oft go astray. I don't have the space today to write out God's instructions and you probably already know them. Just as the Israelites were up against a powerful enemy there in Jericho, we face one just as formidable today. We need a strategic plan to fight Satan and all of those temptations out there. We need a winning strategy...If we do not have a solid plan, during the heat of battle we might suddenly lose confidence. It of kind of like Peter when he was walking on the water toward Jesus. He was alright as long as he was fixed on Jesus, but looking around at the wind and waves wasn't part of the plan...When it comes to fighting against sin, our own strategies will fail us all the time and turn us into losers..I don't like to finish on this down note, but tomorrow's devotional will be about using God's plans to conquer our Jericho...

Have a wonderful day...Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
