Well Aged

"When Joshua was old and well advanced in years, the Lord said to him, 'You are very old, and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over'" (Josh.13:1).

Peggy Anderson wrote a book entitled, Improving With Age...The Best Is Yet To Come. For those of us on the Medicare and Social Security side of the mountain, aging is something that we cope with and make a few concessions to. It seems as if we are living in a youth driven society, but with the average life span increasing. Joshua and Caleb are both in their eighties when we take a look at today's verse. From a physical standpoint, older people cannot do some of the things as well as they could when they were younger. This does not put them on the sidelines of life however, especially from a Christian perspective. "There are still very large areas of land to be taken over." God is telling Joshua, even though he is old, that there is still much for him to accomplish. There are certain advantages to being older. Older people have a much deeper reservoir of experiences to draw from. The older Christian still has many resources. Though one may retire from work, we cannot retire from the human race...We certainly cannot retire from our Christian faith and commitment. It might be good for us to read into the fourteenth chapter of Joshua. Caleb recalls when he was a youthful 40 years old, and the promise made to him by Moses. "Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses" (V 10). God had more for him to do...As we grow older, we can still look to the future with faith and not fear. God still has much for us to accomplish...More on this tomorrow...

Have a great day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
