Aged To Perfection

"I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I'm just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then" (Josh.14:11).

Today's verse is pretty heady talk for an 85 year old...The words are spoken by Caleb and we only have to go back to the preceding verse to find where he got all of this confidence. "Now, then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for 45 years since the time He said this to Moses." Caleb knows that even at this advanced age, great things are still possible. With the Anakites before him, fortified and strong, Caleb still knows the source of his strength..."But, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as He said" (V 12). Through the Lord, Caleb has his strength and courage renewed. Hebron is given to him because, "he followed the Lord God of Israel, wholeheartedly" (V 14). One of the interesting things about life is that we never really arrive. There is always something else for us to accomplish. God will always have some unfinished business for us. As we get older, rather than going into survival mode, the Lord wants us to be in a thriving mode. Optimism should be at the forefront, knowing that through God many great things are still possible. There are no age restrictions put on the apostle Paul's words of Phil.4:13..."I can do everything though Him who gives me strength." When we dedicate our lives fully to the Lord we can look to the future with a boldness and confidence. The faith that got us to this point will continue to reside within us as our faith conquers any and all fears..
