No Man Is An Island

"No man is an island, no man stands alone,
Each man's joy is joy to me, each man's grief is my own.
We need one another, so I will defend,
Each man as my brother, each man as my friend

Joan Baez

In the seventeenth chapter of Exodus, the children of Israel are making their way across the wilderness when they are confronted by the Amalekites. Moses instructed Joshua to choose some men and go out to fight them. He said; "Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands." (V 9) A curious thing took place as Joshua and his men were fighting their foe. "As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning" Aaron and Hur, who were with him at the top of the hill caught on to what was happening and got a stone for Moses to sit on. "Aaron and Hur held his hands up----one on one side and one on the other----so his hands remained steady until sunset" (V 12) This resulted in a victory for Joshua's forces. There are times in life when we need other's help. We may be so close to our problem(s) that we can't view them from the proper perspective. There are times when we just can't make it on our own and we need the help of others to stay on course. One of the grand designs of the church is that all of us are working toward the same goals. We are there for one another, in both times of success and times of failure. We are to hold fast in faith to the hope that we profess. The writer of the book of Hebrews put it beautifully..."Let us consider how we can spur one another on toward love and good deeds." (10:24) The apostle Paul wrote it this way; "Rejoice with those that rejoice; mourn with those who mourn" (Rom.12:15). Sometimes we just need someone like Aaron and Hur to hold up our hands when they grow weary, so that we too will be victorious...

Have a great day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
