Don't Stop Building

Yesterday I wrote about Nehemiah and the rebuilding of the wall around Jerusalem in about 450 BC. The Israelites were coming back from their Babylonian captivity and the building of the wall was very important, in that it served as a means of defense. There was something else more important than the walls that needed to be rebuilt however... During the captivity, the people had grown away from God. They badly needed a rebuilding of their relationship with the Lord...They were in need of a spiritual revival. "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path" (Psa.119:105). They had lost their way because God's Word was no longer an integral part of their lives. Along with this, they no longer worshipped God with the passion that was necessary."And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers" (Neh.9:2). True spiritual revival demands a real and honest humility. This comes through the humble nature of confession. They had to rekindle the servant mentality in putting God first. The rebuilding must never stop. It must reach new heights each day as we realize that God is first and foremost in our lives. Lastly, at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem, there was a genuine celebration. True spiritual revival should bring great joy..."to keep the dedication with gladness, both with thanksgivings, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps" (Neh.12:27). The rebuilding of our walls in spiritual revival should constrain us to praise our God more and more. The joy of praise ought to grow as our spiritual lives become stronger and stronger...Don't ever stop the building....

Have a wonderful day...Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
