Starting Out Small

"Who despises the day of small things?" (Zech.4:10).

We have all heard the idiom that good things come in small packages. To extend that a bit, some things that are good start out small but grow into larger things. They also grow in quality. I am reminded of a parable that Jesus taught about small beginnings. "The kingdom of heaven ( the church) is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field....which is indeed the least of all seeds; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches" (Matt.13:31-32). The kingdoms of men usually grow by warfare and conquest. Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and Napoleon come to mind... Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven was different. Instead of conquest, oppression and death, it would grow by love, reason, faith, good news and persuasion. No great earthly power would be depended upon to make this kingdom grow. Instead of offering death, the kingdom of heaven would offer life, hope and salvation. No cleverness or subterfuge would be necessary. The Lord of the kingdom would be crucified like a criminal, yet His servants would become strong, even in their weaknesses. For many, largeness means success. You know....Big business...Big Buildings....Big Armies. The great news is that God does not need largeness! Even though it would start out small, Jesus taught in the parable that His kingdom was to be powerful. It would last longer than the "force driven" kingdoms and would be much more influential. I love being in the Lord's kingdom here on earth, don't you?

Have a wonderful day...Christians should make a difference.... Love mark Phil.4:11
