No Bells And Whistles

"The kingdom of heaven is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened" (Matt.13:33).

Jane had the good fortune of eating her mother's homemade bread as she grew up. Those wonderful rolls on Sunday were very special too. I can't ever remember them coming out wrong...Bread turns from flour that tastes like sawdust into rich sweet bread through the workings of yeast. Yeast is a living organism that needs a fuel for its food. The amylase and invertase enzymes present in the flour or produced by the yeast break down the starch molecules into sugars which become food for the yeast. Others create the sweet flavor we find in fine bread. Two digestive bi-products, ethanol and carbon dioxide, are what leavens the bread. The carbon dioxide causes it to rise, while the alcohol is evaporated in the baking process. All of this very quietly goes on before we get to feast on the bread. No bells and whistles...The growth of human enterprises are marked with advertising in magazines and loud TV commercials. Jesus said that his kingdom would grow in a different way. The illustration of the leaven or yeast is to show that it needs no fanfare or boisterous activity. It centers around His life, death and resurrection. It centers around the way He wants people to live their lives...Christ-like lives....As yeast quietly weaves its magic in the bread, we are to quietly and persistently spread Christ in the world. No bell or whistles...No glitzy advertising...Just Christians, members of the kingdom, spreading His influence through love, faith, and commitment...These are the traits that should live in us as we strive to be like Him, as citizens of His kingdom.

Have a great day.... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
