When Doubt Arises

"A week later His disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, 'Peace be with you'......Thomas said to Him, 'My Lord and my God'" (Jn.20:26 & 28).

We are all familiar with this passage involving the disciple Thomas. After the resurrection, Jesus appeared to the disciples, but Thomas was not present. When his fellow disciples told him about seeing Jesus, Thomas told them what his criteria for believing would be. (V 25). From this, we have come to call those who have doubts, Doubting Thomas.' What causes people to have doubts? Sometimes people are just like Thomas. From the climate of our times we may only believe what can be absolutely proven. Intellectual conflict may arise as people deal with some of their personal life experiences and have serious questions. What doubts can do to people is an important matter. Doubts can cause us to feel angry and out of control. If we feed on those doubts, we can become jaded or cynical. They can cause us to question God regarding His faithfulness and love and maybe even withdraw from Christian fellowship. There is an anonymous saying that goes; "Feed your faith, and your doubts will starve to death." Although we may not know what our future holds, we all should know who holds our future...That would be God and His blessed Son. I will continue this devotional tomorrow as we examine how to turn doubts into peace. It begins by getting closer and closer to God. Reading Philippians 4:6-9 will be a good starting point...

Have a great day... Make a difference... Love mark Phil.4:11
