Getting Stuffed

"Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?" (Jn.6:9).

Many of you probably recognize today's verse as a prelude to one of Jesus' miracles, the feeding of the five thousand. So...Did all of you eat well yesterday? If you are like us, maybe you ate more than just well...On two different occasions, Jesus miraculously fed large multitudes of people. Jesus left no doubt about His complete and absolute power over even matter, as from five loaves and two fishes, He was able to completely feed more than five thousand people. "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted...So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten" (Vs 12-13). All of this was surely enough to convince people of His great compassion and power, but Jesus saw something else....A teaching moment...Jesus was glad to be able to meet the physical hunger of the people, but He accurately perceived a much greater need. "I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs, but because you ate the loaves and had your fill" (V 26). Jesus understood that the greatest needs of people are spiritual, and He rebuked those who came for carnal purposes. "Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you" (V 27). For those of us who ate well yesterday, by now the food has been processed by our bodies and we will eat more today. Jesus' teaching moment resounds to us today. "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never go thirsty" (V 35). Jesus wanted them and us to know that He has the spiritual food to allow us to live forever...This is the meal that we should truly feast upon....

I hope that your Christmas Day was good....RAKs are good all year long... Love mark Phil.4:11
