Using Our Faith

"The apostles said to the Lord, 'Increase our faith'" (Lk.17:5).

We are conditioned in this world to think that in order to be successful, things have to increase. More money, more things...More of everything...So how about more faith? The disciples in today's verse are asking for more faith. Does Jesus give it to them? "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea, and it will obey you'" (V 6). Does that tell them how to increase their faith? The answer is no! Just because the disciples asked the Lord for an increase in faith, does not mean that faith can be increased. "Do not think more highly of yourself than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgement, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you" (Rom.12:3). (my underlining) It appears that all of us are given a measure of faith. When Jesus answered the disciples, (and us) He did not give them a "How to Booklet" with concise faith increasing instructions. To me what He is saying to them is that they must use what they have. He is saying that we only need a mustard seed's amount of faith to get great things done... In Mark 11, He talks about moving a mountain. When it comes to faith, its not about more and more...It is about using what we have. I will present one more devotional about faith tomorrow. It would be good for us to read and meditate upon Luke 17:5-10.

Have a wonderful day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
