The All Important "Attaboy"

"I myself am convinced, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, complete in knowledge and competent to instruct one another" (Rom.15:14).

Commendations are a good thing. I am not suggesting that the good we do is based on getting these commendations, but they are good none the less. The apostle Paul is commending the Christians at Rome in today's verse. Commending each other for good and purposeful actions is a positive thing. I think it would be of value for us to look at why Paul is commending these people. "You are full of goodness." This is one of the virtues that both Paul (Gal.5:22) and Peter (2 Pet.1:5) have on their lists of graces that we should attain. He is commending them because they exhibit goodness. Paul next commends them because they are "complete in knowledge." The writer of Proverbs says; "The lips of the wise spread knowledge" (15:7). Lastly, Paul commends them because they are "competent to instruct (admonish) one another." It appears to me that the brethren at Rome have put their goodness to use. In doing so, through their knowledge and wisdom, they are truly caring for one another. What a great verse for us to meditate upon today. These are certainly attributes that would be worthy for us to emulate. They would also be wonderful virtues for us to recognize in others and commend them for. Everyone needs an "attaboy" from time to time...

Have a great day...Think big, act small..... Love mark Phil.4:11
