"When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, 'My son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven'" (Mk.2:5).

In both high school and colleges sports, there are cheerleaders. Their job is to encourage the players and to get the fans into a more enthusiastic frame. In her first few years of teaching, Jane was a cheerleader coach. It is a challenging activity, because the fans are not always cooperative, and the cheerleaders often perform solos. They must be salesman too, convincing the crowd to cheer and be enthusiastic. I am not going to relegate Jesus as a cheerleader, but there were a few times in which he used the word cheer to enthuse His audience. The paralyzed man had been lowered through the roof by four of his friends in hope that Jesus would heal him. Jesus did them one better...He gave them a reason to be of good cheer. Not only did Jesus heal the man, but He gave him grace so that he could live. He opened a whole new life-gate for the man by saying, "your sins are forgiven." Jesus gave him more than a physical healing. He gave him an even greater reason to be of good cheer. He healed the man's soul though his power to forgive. The man would now have hope where there was once despair. Along with a renewed body, he had a renewed soul. We should also be of good cheer, because Jesus gives that same forgiveness to those who accept him today.

Hip-Hip-Hoorays usually come in threes. I will share two more of Jesus' cheers in the next devotionals...

Have a great day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
