Our Spiritual Miranda

"I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I might share in its blessings" (! Cor.9:22-23).

We have all seen enough Law and Order type shows to hear the Miranda Rights read to a person being taken into custody by the police. These rights came into effect in 1966 by a Supreme Court decision entitled Miranda vs. the State of Arizona. It was basically to make sure that the person being taken into custody knew his/her Fifth Amendment rights. In today's verse, the apostle Paul set aside some of his rights so that he could become a more effective witness for the gospel of Christ. It takes plenty of self-control to be a good Christian witness. Do you remember one of Popeye's favorite sayings? "I am what I am and that's all that I am." I view this as only partially true. As humans, we have the power of self-control. It allows us to modify or even change our behavior for the common good. Paul said that he became all things to all men. He did this because he understood that I am what I am won't always work when we are trying to witness for the Lord. In the Christian world, personal accountability means a lot. It means that we might have to sacrifice some of our own freedoms for the sake of the weak. God want us to practice self-control in areas of our lives that would have an effect on others. Paul certainly knew what his Christian rights were. He also knew that if he practiced all of them, all of the time that it would diminish his witness. More about our Spiritual Miranda tomorrow...

Have a wonderful day....Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
