A Good Surrender

"Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible" (1 Cor.9:19).

As American citizens, we have a wonderful set of rights. That being said, there are also laws that keep us from infringing on the rights of others. Freedom is a great thing, but it should never be abused. The apostle Paul talked about his freedom in today's verse, as he is doing in much of chapter nine. He talks about many of the rights he has an apostle, including the right to be paid for his work. "Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the corn." (V 9). The point of Paul's discussion in chapter nine is that he had many rights that went unclaimed because of his love for the Corinthians. "We did not use this right. On the contrary, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel" (V 12). Because of our love for others, we should be ready to surrender some of our own rights. "If your brother is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother for whom Christ died" (Rom.14:15). Here we find the key to proper use of one's rights.....It's LOVE! If by practicing things that may be within our rights cause a brother to stumble, we have not acted in love. Christ so values the weak that He died for them. Surely strong Christians ought to make adjustments in their own behavior for the sake of other believers. With freedom comes responsibility....A responsibility motivated by love..

Have a great day....Make a difference... Love mark Phil.4:11
