Church of Christ

A Good Evaluation

"For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart" (1 Sam.16:7).

So what's wrong with evaluating the strength of a Christian based upon things like regular attendance at church services and church related activities? What's the matter with using certain leadership qualities as a measure? We must look no further than today's verse for the answer. I must put in a disclaimer here....Attendance and leadership qualities are important and should never be trivialized. How can we hope to encourage one another on to love and good works if we are not together? How can the church function without people that are willing to lead in teaching or praying? The problem lies in the fact that people can do all of these things and still be spiritually bankrupt. If these are the only qualities by which a person is measured, they may continue to be spiritually immature. There are so many more things other than those that involve a public display that the Lord looks at....If the Lord is looking at those things, we ought to also! We will find the qualities upon which a Christian ought to be evaluated in Gal.5:22-23...."But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." When a person exhibits these virtues, he is being led by the Spirit. That being said, a person who has these qualities will certainly want to be involved in as many church activities as possible. It is the transformation of the inner man that is the motivation for those outward ones. Using this type of evaluation is challenging for us...More about that challenge tomorrow....

Have a wonderful day....Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
