Our Dad

"For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, Abba, Father!'" (Rom.8:15)

In the Greek and Roman society, adoption was not uncommon. An adopted son was often granted all the privileges of a natural son, including inheritance rights. As Christians, we find ourselves in this state as adopted children....adopted by grace as His children. Because of this adoption, we can call out to Him as Abba, Father. This term in Aramaic is translated as "daddy" or "papa." This new adoptive relationship is so deep and personal that we can call our God, "Dad." "The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ" (Vs 16-17). These verses describe the inner testimony of the Holy Spirit, to our relationship with God (dad) and Jesus (brother). "God's children" and "sons of God" are synonymous terms in the Bible. There is some more very cool stuff here. There is the heir thing! Jesus, as the true Son, has received the inheritance and is now with the Father....Our Father! We are told that we're "fellow heirs with Christ." Though everything really belongs to Christ, by grace we share what is His...That's what being co-heirs means. This does not mean that there will be a road here on earth that is free of bumps and an occasional pot-hole. What it does mean however, is that there is a great reward....an inheritance that we will all receive if we remain as faithful children. More about our daddy tomorrow....

Have a wonderful day....Let His light shine through you.... Love mark Phil.4:11
