Talk Or Do?

"So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God" (1 Cor.4:1).

Do you remember the sitcom, The Jeffersons? It was a spin-off of All In The Family. George and Louise moved from a working class neighborhood in Queens, NY to a luxury apartment in Manhattan when George's dry cleaning business took off. Even the title song, "Movin' On Up," extolled their success and subsequent change in lifestyle. I wonder if Christians might be in danger off falling into a George Jefferson syndrome? Just because we have become Christians does not mean that we have finally arrived. Don't get me wrong, our lifestyle ought to change, but we should view ourselves as just starting our journey rather than having arrived. We ought not think that we all of a sudden have been imbued with some superiority of knowledge. We should certainly be reading the Bible more, but there is no magical time when we become so intellectually superior. Although it is the Lord's church that we are now members of, we have no special rights of exclusivity. We are members of an exclusive body, but we should make no claims of exclusiveness. We find in the twenty four hour news cycle, that words can come quickly and easily. Our twenty four hour cycle needs to be filled with much more than words. Yes we have arrived in a sense that we are Christians. We might even study our Bibles to a point where we gain much knowledge, and the church, because of it's Head is really exclusive...So....What are we going to do about it? We cannot rest on our laurels. As we look at today's verse, we can see that those who are entrusted with the secret things of God, are not claiming any exclusivity...."So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ." We become servants of Christ when we are servants to others. After all of this is done, we can think of Movin' On Up....

Have a great start to your week....Begin it with a RAK or two.... Love mark Phil.4:11
