Coping With Fears

"You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday" (Psa.91:5-6).

Turning to some of the writings of King David can certainly tell us how one might deal with fears. Several of the Psalms were written in response to David being terrorized by King Saul. This was not a slap on the wrist kind of worry that David had. King Saul wanted to kill David and had many resources at hand to carry out his mission. Few of us have felt the abject terror that David felt, but every one of us has something that might cause us consternation. The fear of physical dangers might keep us from doing certain things. We may be troubled by traumatic events of a personal nature. There is always the specter of physical suffering or death that may be our enemy. How does a spiritual person survive and even flourish in a life of uncertainty? Psalm fifty nine shows us how David did it. This Psalm might be a good one to read and meditate upon. In the first eight verses he prays to God for deliverance. Though God knows our every need, He still wants to hear them from us. The next seven verses describe David's confidence and trust in God. "O my Strength, I watch for you; O God, are my fortress, my loving God" (V 9). Even before his prayers are answered and confidence fulfilled, David goes into praise mode in the last two verses of the Psalm. "But I will sing of your strength in the morning I will sing of your love; you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. O my Strength, I sing praise to you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God" (Vs 16-17). There are immutable truths that can make our lives more stable. Our God is near....Only a prayer away....Our God will deliver us from evil. I can stand up to my fears with faith and not be afraid because God is in control....

Have a great day...Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
