Finding Ethics

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God" (1 Cor.10:31).

That thing we used before wikipedia called the dictionary, defines ethics as having to do with right and wrong and that which deals with moral conduct, duty and judgement. The Bible compresses all of that into one very simple word....HOLINESS....In today's verse, the apostle Paul gives us a hint to what the purpose of Christian ethics is all about...."Do it for the glory of God." The pattern of Christian ethics revolves around being Christ-like. Paul was so confident that his behavior was Christ-like that he wrote; "Therefore I urge you to imitate me" (1 Cor.4:16). There is an important principle behind being ethical and that principle is love. "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres" (1 Cor.13:4-7). We cannot be holy if that holiness is not grounded in this kind of love. Finally, there is a power associated with Christian ethics. Just as a car is powered by the burning of a fuel, Christian ethics is powered by the Holy Spirit. "Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires" (Rom.8:5-6). It has always been God's plan that we live holy lives.....That we practice Christian ethics....More tomorrow...

Have a great day....Let His light shine through you..... Love mark Phil.4:11
