Church of Christ

Showing Gratitude

"We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Thess.1:2-3).

The letter to the new church at Thessalonica was a quick turnaround for the apostle Paul. He had just been there with Silas and established the church, (Acts17:1-10) and made his way to Corinth. It was from here that he penned this letter back to the Thessalonian church. In the letter he doesn't flatter them with meaningless praise, nor sharply criticize them. But rather he shows sensitivity and realism. God had produced this fruit in the lives of believers and it was up to Paul to see that they would bear more. As he wrote, he expressed genuinely and with thanksgiving about the fellowship he had shared with them. It has been said that unexpressed thanksgiving is like a flower without petals. It doesn't inspire godliness, builds no bonds and shows no beauty. Today's verse gives three characteristics the Thessalonians showed that were worthy of this thanksgiving and gratitude...."work produced by faith"....."labor prompted by love"..."endurance inspired by hope".....WOW!!!!! These three qualities are fantastic ones to have for any Christian, let alone a new one! It is no wonder that Paul was constrained to express this thanksgiving and gratitude. It would be good for us to emulate these three qualities. It is no coincidence that Paul, some years later mentions these at the end of the famous "love chapter" (13) in First Corinthians. "Now faith, hope and love abide, these three;" Lets be sure to show gratitude to those around us for their Christian qualities....

Have a great start to your week....Begin it with a RAK or two.... Love mark Phil.4:11
