All About Examples

"And you became followers of us and the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became examples to all Macedonia and Achaia who believe" (1 Thess.1:6-7).

We have heard and read much about role models. People, especially young ones, will imitate the behavior of people that they respect. The power of imitation is a great one. We find a positive thread of example setting and imitation here in Paul's first letter to the Thessalonian church. "For you, brothers, became imitators of God's churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus" (2:14). The new Christians in Thessalonica were imitating positive traits of the churches in Judea. As Paul traveled, he then extolled the virtues of the Thessalonians. Pretty soon, the new churches, from the northern Greek province of Macedonia, to the southern province of Achaia were abuzz. They were abuzz about these Christians for a reason. "Your faith in God has become known everywhere......for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven" (1:8-10). The Thessalonians "got it." It is all about following and setting examples! "Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children" (Eph.5:1)...."Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ" (1 Cor.11:1). We find here the wonderful unbroken chain of examples. God and Christ are to be imitated as the ultimate examples. Then good Christians and churches are to imitate other good Christians and churches. Finally it comes full circle when we become mature enough to serve as examples also. It is something for all of us to strive for....

Have a wonderful day...Go about doing good.... Love mark Phil.4:11
