Bethel Revisited

"So Jacob said to his household and all who were with him; 'Get rid of your foreign gods you have with you, and purify yourselves and change your clothes'" (Gen.35:2).

I moved back two verses from yesterday's scripture. If Jacob was going to have a renewal from God, he knew that something needed to change. The foreign gods had to be buried and forgotten! Jacob needed to get back to his roots. Notice the next verse, just before the burying of the foreign gods. "Then come, let us go up to Bethel, where I will build an alter to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone" (V 3). Jacob's pilgrimage with God began at Bethel and he had to get back there. There are warnings in our lives that tell us that the road to Bethel is not our goal. When we don't look forward to worshipping God on His day, that becomes a roadblock. If we allow worldliness to creep into our lives and tolerate it, the journey will be hindered. If our lives are becoming more related to the physical pleasures rather than the spiritual rewards, our path gets blurred. How do we get on the right path? First we must identify our God! Then we have to smash what gets in the way and return to Him. Only then can God live in our hearts. With that, God will protect us and keep us on our journey. "After Jacob returned from Paddan Aram, God appeared to Him again and blessed him. God said to him, 'Your name is no longer Jacob; your name will be Israel. So he named him Israel'" (V 10). Not only did God change Jacob's name, but also He changed his heart and his life. God can bring changes in our lives that will help us on our journey, so that we too will arrive safely....

Have a wonderful day....God makes a difference in our lives that we might make a difference in others.... Love mark Phil.4:11
