God and God Alone

"O Lord, our Lord, how excellent thy name; How excellent is thy name in all the earth; Who has set Thy glory above the heavens! We'll praise Thy holy name for ever, ever-more"

From O Lord, Our Lord by Horatio P. Palmer 1874

Have you heard the song O Lord, Our Lord sung? Have you ever participated in it's singing. The words and music are thrilling in their praise of the Lord. As the song continues, the bass part goes; "We will praise Thy name forever more, how excellent Thy glorious name." Worship ought to be an integral part of a Christian's life. When we come together on the Lord's day it should be with focus and purpose. The focus should be on God! God first, last and always. As the song says to us, we should praise, glory and magnify His name. Everything about our worship ought to revolve around Him. "Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his majesty is above the earth and heaven" (Psa.148:13). When we worship together we can't help but lift each other up in song praise and prayer. Make no mistake, God is not just one of the guys! Even though we stimulate one another in worship, it is not our main task. The reason for worship is not to please and impress others, but to please, impress and glorify our God. Here is what the apostle Paul said about those who fail to give honor and thanks to Him. "For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened" (Rom.1:21). We should never be tempted to worship any other way but in Spirit and in Truth. When Jesus went up on the mountain and was tempted by Satan to bow down and worship him, his response echoes to us through the corridors of time..."Worship the Lord your God only, and serve him only" (Matt.4:10). With that said, we read further; "Then the devil left him." It is all about God, and God alone....
