Mental Preparation

"Let this attitude (mind) be in you that was in Jesus Christ" (Phil.2:5).

Yogi Berra, the great baseball catcher of the 50s and 60s, is credited with many funny quotes. One of my favorites is; "Baseball is 90% mental, the other half is physical." Most professional athletes today are in fantastic physical condition. The teams have state-of-the-art training facilities and many trainers who are specialists in the field. They have off season training sessions, some of which are mandatory, and most of them workout all year long. With all of this said, the most talented and the best trained athletes do not always win. There must be something else. To win, one must be mentally as well as physically prepared. "For physical training (discipline) is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the one to come" (1 Tim.4:8). A Christian simply cannot win at the game of life without mental discipline. It is not always the most talented that win, but the ones that put their talents to the greatest use. A person with great talent may see an obstacle and think that he can overcome it with his own sheer ability....WRONG! Competing successfully in life is about today's verse..."Let this mind be in you that was in Jesus Christ." We must strive to be more Christ-like in our lives and this starts with the mind. Lets just be assured that it is our minds that control our bodies, and when we discipline ourselves mentally, the rest will follow. Though Yogi's math was a little off, he was right....

Have a wonderful day.... Go about doing good..... Love mark Phil.4:11
