Church of Christ

"Now the body is not made up of one part but of many......If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body" (1 Cor.12:1, 19, 20).

One of the aspects of team sports that I liked the best was the teamwork. Don't get me wrong, talented athletes help to make a team successful, but the talents of all the members must blend together for the team to succeed. Because of the laying on of hands by the apostle Paul, certain members of the Corinthian church had some special spiritual gifts. These special gifts were given through the Spirit for a reason. "Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good" (V 7). Instead of using these incredible talents for the good of the church, they bickered over who's gift was better. Paul had to remind them that the church was a team and that a team must work together. The church must utilize the talents of all of it's members in order to be the one body that is spoken of in today's verse. There is a unique byplay in verses 14 to the end of the chapter that would be good for us to read and meditate upon. As he compares the church to a human body, Paul mentions the head, feet, hands, ears, and eyes. I take Paul's comparison to the level of members of a team. The church is indeed a team with many talented members. For it to function the way it should, all members must contribute and be a part. We don't want to be labeled as one who does not play well with others, do we? Jesus sacrificed himself for the church and He expects sacrifice from us too. He expects teamwork....

Have a great day... Use your talent(s) to make a difference... Love mark Phil.4:11
