The Joy Of Obedience

"Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. As they traveled the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, 'Look, here is water. Why shouldn't I be baptized?' And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. When they came out of the water, the Spirit of The Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing" (Acts 8:35-39).

I truly love this account of the conversion of the Ethiopian. He had been reading a Messianic prophecy from the Book of Isaiah and wanted to know who the prophet was talking about. Philip explained it to him and shared the good news of Jesus. It is obvious that Philip talked about the obedience of baptism too, for when they came to some water the Ethiopian asked the question about it. After Philip baptized him it says that he went on his way rejoicing. Obedience to the Word of God engenders true joy in the hearts of the obedient. "You became imitators of us and the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit" (1 Thess.1:6). Despite severe suffering, the Thessalonians obeyed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. We might look at the other side of the coin and surmise that disobedience has the opposite effect. In disobedience there is a lack of joy. The joy that ought to be there is replaced by anxiety and fear. I have written all week about things that ought to produce joy in us. Is it possible that our lack of joy can be attributable to our lack of obedience? In tenderness to the will of God there shall be peace in our hearts. This peace will certainly be accompanied by the joy found in the knowledge that we are doing what the Lord wants us to do....The joy of obedience....

Have a wonderful day...Make a difference.... Love mark Phil.4:11
