I'm A Christian - What Now?

"But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: 'Be holy, for I am holy'" (1 Pet.1:15-16).

To obey the Lord and become a Christian is certainly one of the most important decisions that we will make in our lives. Becoming a part of God's special family comes with so many benefits for us. But after that decision, what are God's expectations of us? Becoming a member of His church is important, but there is more...Attending services faithfully is important, but there is more...There are actually some requirements on our part. A look at today's verse will tell us the first and perhaps most important. "Be holy, for I am holy" is a quote from the old law in the Book of Leviticus.(11:44) God expected the children of Israel to live holy lives. All through the New Testament, God's children are called to do more than be in a church and attend a lot. I think that God assumes if we live a holy life that this will land us in a church that we will want to attend. The apostle Paul says that we are to be "holy and blameless in his sight" (Eph.1:4). As he opens his first letter to the church at Corinth he writes: "To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ----their Lord and ours" (1:2). All of the good things that Christians are and do, stems from wanting to be holy as the Father is holy. Our Christian lives are an every day striving for holiness. More on "what now" to come....

Have a wonderful day....Let His light shine through you.... Love mark Phil.4:11
