More That God Expects

"Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil" (1 Thess.1:22).

Yesterday I wrote that God expects us to strive to be holy, just as He is holy. If we are successful in these strivings, some other things should naturally follow. The KJV of today's verse is much more strongly worded. It says: "Abstain from all appearance of evil." We certainly live in a sinful world. Avoiding every kind of evil is almost an impossibility. I believe that what God expects of us is to avoid sin! In 1965, the Hebrew National Company that makes those good hot dogs, launched a successful advertising campaign. Their slogan read: "We answer to a higher authority." When we decide to follow Jesus, this is exactly what happens. We are now answerable to a higher authority and need to act as such. "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body" (1 Cor.6:19-20). God expects us to live a life in which we refrain from the practice of sinful things. God knows that we are human and will falter once in a while, but He doesn't expect that to be our norm for behavior. Hebrew National's slogan is so good, that it is still in use today. We should take that same attitude to heart when the temptations of life try to bring us down. We owe it to the one who forgives and saves us to act right. We answer to a higher authority....

Have a great day...Make your part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
