Stopping The Drift

"We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure" (Heb.6:19).

I will save the necessity of a good anchor for last as I complete this three-part series about drifting away from the Lord. A young boy died in the ocean off Atlantic City early this month when he was carried out by some strong undercurrents. They are called rip tides and are often unobservable. The fleshly nature of sin may act as a rip tide, as temptations attempt to make us drift away from the Lord.... People get to a certain age and often retire from their life long career. There is no retirement in Christianity!!! We have to keep on rowing, as we try to become more and more mature in our Christian walk. Older Christians, who have been "through the wars," are a wonderful source of inspiration for those in danger of drifting.... What is popular and accepted by the majority, is not always right. Sometimes we may have to swim against the tide..."But small is the gate and narrow is the road that leads to life, and only a few find it" (Matt.7:14). This verse is immediately preceded by Jesus talking about the broader and wider gate that leads to destruction. We can get lost if we drift along with the wrong majority.... Finally, there is that important anchor. The anchor that the writer of the Book of Hebrews is speaking about is the hope we have in Christ. Jesus is the anchor that will guarantee our safety. To secure this anchor we must fasten ourselves to the truth. For this anchor to do its job, we must be rooted and grounded in Jesus Christ. "And I pray that you may be rooted and established in love" (Eph.3:16) To be established in Jesus, is to be rooted and grounded in His wonderful love. I hope these ideas help us not to drift, but to become more firm in the Lord....

Have a great day... Make your part of the world better.... Love mark Phil.4:11
