The Eye - The Lamp Of The Body

"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, the whole body will be filled with light" (Matt.6:22).

Jesus uses a great metaphor here, as He does often in THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT. Jesus wants us to be very rich! Not rich in the sense that the world would think of, however. He wants us to be rich toward God and free from the coveting of material things. "But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be filled with darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!" (V 23). The eye in this metaphor likely represents the heart of man. As children of the Lord, if our eyes (hearts) are single in the purpose in its love of God, then we will be filled with light. The apostle Paul describes it this way: "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness" (Eph.5:8-11). Paul makes an apt description here of what makes up light....It consists of goodness, righteousness, and truth. As the Lord's children, we ought to have a desire and need to be very rich toward Him. These are the true riches of life. Being filled with light will constrain us to wonderful things in His sight. We will want to follow Jesus' example as He said; "For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve" (Mk.10:45). As we live our lives as humble servants of others, we will serve Jesus as we should. We will be filled with light....

Have a great start to your week....Begin it with a RAK or two.... Love mark Phil.4:11
