The Handy Pocket Knife

"This is what he showed me: the Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb, with a plumb line in his hand" (Amos 7:7).

For my whole adult life, I have carried a pocket knife with me. Post 9/11 has curtailed where I can carry it at times, but I have gone through several of them in my life. I can't count how many times I have used it for little tasks, or loaned it to someone to complete theirs. The plumb-bob has been used for centuries to insure verticality in structures, and many of you have used a level or tape measure. Along with these devices to aid us are some tried and true rules. The carpenter's rule of measure twice and cut once is a good one to help us to insure accuracy. There are countless numbers of books that have been written about human relationships. There are probably also many supposed carpenter's rules that accompany them. Lets imagine for a moment that we are in an emergency situation in which we must make a decision concerning righteous conduct toward another....There's no book or guideline available...There is no friend, mentor or teacher to turn to...There is not even enough time to consult that indispensable hand/held device that many of us have come to depend upon. Ah! There is a carpenter's rule that can serve as the righteous guideline in such a situation. Jesus gave it to us for this precise moment...."In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you" (Matt.7:12). When we use this wonderful rule about personal and righteous conduct toward others, it is unlikely that we will ever do the wrong thing. Just reach for that handy pocket knife...

Have a great day....Let His light shine through you.... Love mark Phil.4:11
