A Great Custom

"Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, as was his custom since early days" (Dan.6:10).

Daniel prophesied to the Babylonians while in captivity and was elevated to an important position in the King's court. His non-Jewish counterparts became jealous and figured out a way to eliminate him by stoking the king in telling him that only he should be worshipped for the next 30 days. Today's verse is Daniel's response to that decree. For years, preachers (me too) have used this verse as an example for being a prayerful person. Tomorrow, I would like to take a different slant on the verse. God wants us, like Daniel, to pray. There is however no numerical requirement. Daniel just chose on his own to pray at least three times a day. ("as was his custom since early days") Daniel was like the proverbial postman....Nothing would keep him from his own personal prayers rounds. What a wonderful example Daniel has set for us. "The royal administrators, prefects,, satraps, and advisors and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or man during the next thirty days, except you, O king, shall be thrown into the lion's den" (V 7). Daniel was not just sticking to his custom for show, but under the threat of death. A page from Daniel's book would be a good one for us to take. Maybe some of our days are so busy that we don't think we can possibly squeeze in a prayer or three. Maybe this is the time to think or Daniel's resolve. Nothing....Nothing....Nothing would keep him from praying to his God at least three times a day...We can do it too, and we don't even have to worry about the lions...The other slant tomorrow.....

Have a great start to your week....Begin it with a RAK or two.... Love mark Phil.4:11
