Using The Chances

"The Lord said, 'Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? It will be good for the servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns........From everyone who is given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked'" (Lk.12:42-43, 48b).

There sometimes seems to be a attitude among Christians, especially younger ones, that goes something like this: "I'm really busy and have a lot on my plate right now...After I get done, then I can serve the Lord, but now I am just too busy." It has been my experience that those people will always be too busy. Jesus makes an important point in today's verses. The person who is esteemed is the one who is making the very best of his opportunities to serve. The point is similar to the one that James made (4:13-16) in yesterday's devotional. We have a lot less control over our lives than one would allow us to imagine, and must use every opportunity to serve that is before us. We should never expect that they will remain available tomorrow because too many other things might happen. There is an awesome responsibility for the one who has been entrusted with much......much more will be asked. I am reminded of Jesus' parable of the talents in Matthew 25. The person who was given the one talent returned exactly what he was given and was cast out. Why? Because he was expected to use what he was given for the Master's advantage, and he did not. We are given chances to serve the Lord in both great and small ways. Are we the ones who will take advantage of those chances, even if it isn't the most convenient time? This is what the Lord wants and expects from us. Stephen Grellet is credited with this saying. I will end this morning's devotional with it. "I shall pass this way but once; any goodness therefore that I can do, or any kindness I can show---let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again."

Have a great day....Use it for the Lord.... Love mark Phil.4:11
