Been There - Done That

"Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. See what this Godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter" (2 Cor.7: 10-11).

George Bernard Shaw is credited with the idiom, "youth is wasted on the young." In giving advice to young people I often say: "As hard as it might be to believe, I was your age once.....You've never been mine, and I'd like to see you get here." Experience when applied correctly, can be a wonderful teacher. The apostle Peter is certainly a unique character in the gospels. He says and does some things that border on outlandish, but Jesus is patient with him. Peter reaches his low point on the night of Jesus' arrest, when he denies his Savior three times. Jesus has told him that he would, but Peter in his own inimitable manner bragged that he would not. When it happened, the Lord looked across the courtyard at Peter and he remembered what he had done. Peter wept bitterly... He had reached absolute rock bottom. When Judas realized what he had done, he took his own life, but Peter must have felt like there was a lot left in his tank and did not give up. About fifty days later, on the Day of Pentecost, Peter would deliver what would be considered the first gospel sermon. (Acts 2)...."and about three thousand were added to their number that day" (Acts 2:41). Peter would later write two epistles. We find a lot in these epistles that will prevent us from making the same mistakes as he did. It is not all been there, done that, but we can glean some sage advice from one who had learned from experience, and come out smelling like a rose. We can learn from someone who learned the hard way, and be better for it. The next few devotionals will be about Peter's advice to us....Please stay tuned.....

Have a great day.... Let His light shine through you.... Love mark Phil.4:11
