No Turning Back

"I have decided to follow Jesus; I have decided to follow Jesus; I have decided to follow Jesus; No turning back, no turning back....The world behind me, the cross before me; the world behind me, the cross before me; The world behind me, the cross before me; No turning back, no turning back"

Folk Melody from India, arr. Pam Stephenson Words: Unknown

Those words are from a hymn in our church song book and speak about going forward. Once we make the commitment to follow Jesus, there is no turning back. Another verse of the song says: "Though none go with me, I still will follow." Peter spent three years with Jesus, but reached his nadir on the night that He was arrested. His infamous denials of the Lord put him in grave danger of sliding off into oblivion. Instead, be became a rock for the Lord's work for at least the next thirty or more years. In writing two epistles, he gave us some sound advice to keep moving forward. "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time" (1 Pet.5:6). Peter had learned the lesson of humility the hard way, and passes it on to us. We cannot allow our pride to make us slide backwards. The Lord is right there for us, waiting to lift us up, if we approach Him with humility instead of pride. "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble" (Jas. 4:6). Peter tells us to be diligent instead of lazy. Because the devil is lurking, Peter advises us in this manner: "Be self-controlled and alert.....resist him, standing firm in your faith" (1 Pet.5:8 & 9). In his second epistle he gives similar advice. "make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with Him" (3:14). Lastly, Peter tells us to be heroes instead of cowards. "However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name" ( 1 Pet.4:16). We are given the charge to glorify God in all of our actions, thinking of what it means to Him and not us...If we follow Peter's advice, we will move forward instead of backward...More tomorrow...

Have a great day.... Do Good.....Give God the credit.... Love mark Phil.4:11
