The Whole Enchilada

"My soul waits for the Lord more than the watchmen wait for the morning....O Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins" (Psa.130:6-8).

This Psalm was written by someone who was in the Persian captivity of the Jews. The captivity is just about to come to an end, and the psalmist is praying to God and showing a complete trust in the Lord. The metaphor of one's soul waiting for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning is a lovely one. Attacks could be made under the veil of darkness, and with the light came real security. It would be good for us to read and meditate upon Psalm 130 today... The way that the people of Judah handled their captivity was diverse. Some gave up and just waited for death. Some, as people have often done, blamed God. Some thought that the idol gods of Babylon were better than God. Some thought that they had done wrong in abandoning God, but wanted to keep their idols.....Just in case....Prophets like Ezra, Exekiel, Jeremiah, and Daniel tried to convince the people. They tried to convince them that only an uncompromising repentance would do....That only a complete confession of sins and an unflinching homage to God was an acceptable response. To us today, a graphic lesson ought to be learned. Christians have a clear choice...Follow God, or follow the world! Just as with the Israelites, there is no compromise here. A half-hearted obedience will just not be enough. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" (Matt.22:37). We can't expect to think that we can toss God an occasional bone of love or obedience and hope for His blessings to flow our way. That is simply an insult to the majesty and greatness of God. The children of Israel would not return from captivity until they devoted themselves to God alone. We will remain under the captivity of the world until we do the same. God deserves the whole enchilada....

Have a wonderful day....Make your part of the world better.... Love mark Phil.4:11
