Where Do We Sit?

"And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus" (Eph.2:6).

Have you ever been asked the question, "how does that sit with you?" I take it to mean what we think about a certain situation. Where we sit on a certain issue can be of importance to us. Today's verse puts a believer in a unique sitting mode. It says that God "has raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly places." Before we became Christians we were dead in sin as we walked after the way of the world. It is quite a wonderful contrast to find ourselves transported from "sitting in the seat of mockers" (Psa.1:1) to sitting in the heavenly places. How blessed we are to be raised with Christ to that spiritual realm. In that place we enjoy the wonderful blessings of being in Christ as we sit with Him. Since Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, we can consider ourselves to be there also. "His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places" (Eph.3:10). It is a staggering thought that the church on earth is observed, so to speak, in these spiritual terms. It is awesome to comprehend that in its spiritual unity, the church portrays to us the grand wisdom of God. In that we are seated with Christ in the heavenly places, we need to have a more lofty frame of mind. Paul explains that to us in the letter to the Colossians. "Since you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things" (3:1-2). As Christians, more is expected of us regarding our demeanor and behavior. Sitting with Christ in heavenly places should impact how we think and act. Where we sit affects how we walk...
