Can't Get Enough Of That Love

"And to godliness, brotherly kindness (phileo); and to brotherly kindness, love (agape)" (2 Pet.1:7).

The Bible gives us no excuse for a lack of heartfelt love toward Jesus, our brethren, and our families....None whatsoever... Today's verse, is a part of Peter's list of virtues that will produce a well-rounded and fruitful Christian life. Both kinds of love are included, and the list starts with; "for this reason, make every effort to add to......" It certainly says that both of these virtues are important, that they are commanded, and that they overlap. If we are adding as the scriptures say, by all indication their amounts can be increased. If for some reason we find ourselves lacking in our heartfelt love toward Jesus, our brethren, and our families, it is incumbent upon us to notice and do something about it. We need, if necessary, to relearn or reinvigorate the love that is commanded of us, whether agape or phileo....There are a plethora of examples for us, including; Jesus, the Father, the apostles, and other Christians. When we take the initiative to learn and refine agape love, it is only natural the phileo love develop. If the next verse looks familiar, I used it in yesterday's devotional. "Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have a sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart" (1 Pet.1:22). We can't get enough of this unfeigned and affectionate love for one another. (Philadelphia) We have been purified in Christ for just this purpose. Do we deeply and fervently love (agape) each other as we should? We just can't get enough of that love....

Have a great day.... Let His love shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
