My Kingdom For A Horse

"The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or "there it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you" (Lk.17:20-21).

In Shakespeare's play, Richard III, in the climax of the battle, King Richard has lost his horse. He utters the famous line that is a part of my title today...."A horse, a horse! My kingdom for a horse." The expression has been used over the years to signify what we would give up for something really important. To be sure, in the religious world the Kingdom of God is of epic importance. Today's verses are a statement by Jesus in response to a question asked by the Pharisees about when the kingdom of God would come. It would certainly seem that Jesus is saying the kingdom of God is spiritual in nature. He makes this statement in the gospel of John: "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were. my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place" (18:36). The apostle Paul makes this statement: "For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit" (Rom.14:17). I just want to make a side note here...The terms kingdom of God and kingdom of heaven are referring to the same thing. Paul is making a very salient point here in the book of Romans. I believe that he is saying that the kingdom of God is wherever the God of heaven is allowed to rule in the hearts of men..... It is not about the physical aspects food and drink. It is not a kingdom that can be physically defended. When we take Jesus into our lives, the kingdom comes along with Him. As we look at the fruit of the Spirit that is "love, joy. peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control," ( Gal.5:22 ) lets realize that they are a part of the kingdom of God. As much as I admire horses, none are as valuable as the kingdom of God....

Have a wonderful day....Let Jesus light shine through you.... Love mark Phil.4:11
